Dalgona, is known as is a classic Korean sugar candy made with simple ingredients, sugar, water, and baking soda. Dalgona cookies or candy has become popular lately because of the Netflix hit “Squid Games.” In the series, contestants try to carve out the pattern in the candy without breaking it. The problem is when the candy becomes too hard and brittle, it breaks. That’s where we come in to show you how to soften Dalgona cookies. 

The Dalgona Cookie challenge

The goal of the Dalgona Challenge is to beak the excess cookie apart from the stamped pattern. Dalgona candy is shaped into a disk with a design pressed into it. The print is pressed into the candy becomes it hardens and becomes brittle. The challenge consists of eating or breaking the surrounding pieces without breaking the inner pattern. Traditionally you use a pin or a toothpick to help snap off the excess. This is where it’s handy to soften the dalgona candy.

This method might sound ridiculous, but it’s a trusted method to soften cookies. It’s a simple method but unfortunately may take some time. How this works is that bread will release transfer moisture over to the cookie. It does not matter what bread you use.

Are you out of bread? You can try the same method with an apple. Apple, like simple white bread, has the almost miraculous ability to soften cookies. The apple has moisture which would eventually transfer and soften the cookies.

3) Using A Microwave to Soften Dalgona Candies

If you don’t have any bread or apples, you can soften Dalgona cookies using the microwave method. The microwave method is not the preferred method since it has the potential to go wrong. Microwave it too long, and it can be counterintuitive and make the cookies harder. The way it works is similar to the apple and bread method. It transfers water from the moist towel to the Dalgona cookie.

Be careful not to microwave it too much; otherwise, you’ll have a ruined cookie. 

4) Licking the Dalgona Cookies

While not our preferred method, if all else fails try licking the cookies beforehand. Enough licks should provide the necessary moisture to soften the cookies. Sometimes you have to do what you gotta do to soften those Dalgona cookies.

Preventing the Dalgona cookies from getting hard in the first place would be ideal. Dalgona Cookies are its softest when it’s cooling once you take it off the stove. If you need to store it, the trick is keeping it in an airtight environment. If they were in the refrigerator, try bringing them to room temperature. That may be enough to soften them sufficiently to eat. Hardened cookies may be a nightmare, especially if you’re competing in the Squid Games, but in the kitchen, there’s an easy solution to soften them.
